BAREILLY: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has set the agenda for his future course of action by hinting at the formation of a broad-based Third Front at the Centre, comprising leaders from East, West, North and South. And on Sunday, he chose the Rohilla territory of Bareilly for making the statement because Samajwadi Party had performed well in the BJP stronghold in the 2002 Assembly polls.
Bareilly with its nine assembly segments of Aonla, Sunha, Faridpur, Bareilly Cantonment, Bareilly City, Nawabganj, Bhojipura, Kanwar and Baheri will go to polls in the third phase on April 18. SP had bagged five seats in the last elections here, with its tally going to seven when Dharmendra Kashyap (Sunha) and Aatur-ur-Rehman (Baheri), elected on BSP tickets, later joined it. Mulayam's meeting was held at the Islamia Inter College ground where former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and former Karnataka CM and now SP MP S Bangarappa were present. Former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa could not make it to the meeting. She, however, sent a message, saying she would be present at SP's meeting in Allahabad.
